Commission
A fragrance that exists once.
Composed for you, and for no one else.
The idea
Somewhere in the world there is a fragrance that is yours. It has not been made yet.
Every fragrance you have ever worn was composed for thousands of people. A commission is composed for one. It begins with who you are and what you want to be remembered by, and it ends in a bottle that will never be on a shelf, in any city, for anyone else.
Six months. An independent perfumer. Stacey beside you at every stage. An edition of one.
And if there is a perfumer whose work you have always loved, say so. Twenty years in this world have given Stacey a way to the people who make it, and there is no door that cannot at least be knocked on.
The memory
A memory you can return to, at will.
Of all the senses, smell is the one wired straight to memory. It does not ask permission. One breath of the right fragrance and the years fold: you are standing where you stood, beside whoever you were beside, on the day it mattered.
A commission puts that instinct in your hands. Wear it once, on the day, and the day is kept. Open the bottle ten years on and it is all still there. The nerves before the vows. The first morning of the honeymoon. The week the house was finally yours.
People commission for weddings, and for the anniversaries that follow them. For a first child, and the summer they were small. For the milestone birthday, the promotion that took a decade, the villa on the coast they mean to go back to. For a parent, so that something of them stays in the room. And sometimes for no occasion at all, except that they have decided who they are.
For
Three reasons, among many.
01
The occasion
A wedding. An anniversary. A day that deserves a scent of its own, to be worn once and remembered every time it is opened.
02
The memory
A place, a person, a summer. Composed from what you describe, so that one breath takes you back.
03
The signature
The fragrance people will come to know you by. Unmistakably yours, because it is only yours.
How it unfolds
Six months, in four movements.
The brief
A long conversation with Stacey. What you wear, what you have loved, what you want this to do. From it she writes the brief, and the perfumer receives it.
The first draft
Several answers rather than one. You smell them beside her, and say which is closest to the thing in your head.
The sittings
Three or four, over the months that follow. Warmer, drier, closer to the skin. Every version is smelled, and every change is yours.
The edition
Two or three bottles, finished and named. The formula archived in your name, to be made again whenever you ask, and for nobody else.
What you receive
Yours, in every sense.
An edition of two or three bottles, presented. The written formula, held in your name and never shared. The right to have it made again, for as long as you want it. And the story of how it came to be, which is the part people ask about first.
