Orto Parisi is where Alessandro Gualtieri goes further. Named for the garden of his grandfather, Vincenzo Parisi, the house is built on the idea that the body's own smells are the most honest raw material in perfumery, and that a fragrance should sit close to them rather than cover them.
The names give the game away. Stercus is Latin for something a florist would not put on a label, and the fragrance is warm, animalic and unexpectedly beautiful. Terroni is volcanic earth and smoke. Boccanera is the smell of a mouth, dark and sweet. Megamare is the sea at full strength, salt and seaweed and ambergris. Bergamask is bergamot over musk, the gentlest of them and still unmistakably his.
The character of the house
Fearless. These are fragrances that ask something of the wearer and repay it with a presence that nothing polite could match. The bottles, capped in lava stone, look the way the perfumes smell.
Why Stacey admires it
Because it reminds her what fragrance is for. Not to smell nice. To smell like someone.
